Incident report

Two local walkers out enjoying their daily exercise in the sunshine ended up requiring the services of East Midlands Ambulance Service and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team after a little mishap.

After weeks of snow and rain, the area leading up to and around Solomon’s Temple were wet and slippery. One of the walkers took a tumble on a path leading out of the woods. This fall resulted in a very painful upper arm injury and the casualty was unable to move from the site of the incident. Other locals who had witnessed the trip were able to offer assistance by dialling 999 and making the casualty comfortable until further help arrived. The location of the incident required the help of BMRT to assist with the evacuation of the casualty to the road.

EMAS were soon on scene and were guided to the fallen walker by a member of the public, and not long after this the first team members began to arrive and deploy the equipment necessary to carry the casualty from the site of the incident. Initial medical treatment was given by the ambulance crew while the stretcher was assembled and made ready for the casualty to be carried back to the road. The walker was then wrapped in both a casualty bag and vacuum mattress on the stretcher to keep her warm and secure as she was carried across the field to the ambulance, and onward transfer to hospital.

We are extremely grateful for the early intervention by the members of the public who witnessed the fall, initiated the request for help and led the paramedics to the casualty, their help actions and assistance were greatly appreciated.

The team then stood down and the vehicles returned to base for cleaning and preparation for the next callout.

We send our best wishes to the casualty for a quick recovery from her injuries and look forward to seeing her out and about soon.
