Incident report

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called out by Derbyshire Constabulary after a 999 call was received from two walkers lost on Kinder, who were unable to find their way off the plateau.

Their location was identified using phone technology which ‘pings’ their phone and collects the grid reference of their position allowing team members to search a smaller area. Team members formed two sections which were dispatched from Upper Booth to make their way up Crowden Clough searching for the two walkers. As the section following the stream was making its way uphill, they saw lights on the slopes to the west of the stream and after a short climb came across the walkers. After identifying both were fit and well, the decision was taken to walk them around the slope and meet up with the second section which had been searching the hillside closer to the ridge of Crowden Clough.

The combined group then made their way downhill to a team vehicle parked at Upper Booth where the welfare of the walkers was checked again before the journey back to their vehicle parked at Edale.

We are delighted with the outcome of this search and hope the walkers gained some valuable experience during their adventure.
