Incident report

Seventeen members of the Joint Edale and Buxton Teams’ Snatch Squad were alerted by East Midlands Ambulance Service to an incident in Lathkill Dale whereby a 56 year old gentleman had suffered a severe loss of blood from ruptured varicose vein.

The man, from Sheffield, had been walking with his wife in the dale when the problem occurred.  Fortunately they were in perhaps the only part of the dale which has a mobile phone signal and they were able to call for help without delay.

Mountain Rescue team members were with the casualty very quickly and were able to give treatment.  Derbyshire, leicestershire & Rutland Air-ambulance was also overhead very soon but had to land some distance from the casualty site.

When on-site medical treatment was completed the casualty was carried by stretcher to the waiting air-ambulance for a flight to a Sheffield hospital.

As this incident was closing Edale MRT was called off to another one in the Derwent Valley.
