Incident report

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team responded to a call for assistance from two lost walkers.

The walkers, in their sixties from the Greater Manchester area, were walking the southern edges of Kinder Scout in thick mist, when they became separated. The weather conditions at the time was of extremely poor visibility, icy underfoot, with an increasing windchill.

The information received indicated they separated in the Pym Chair area. Fortunately they located one another quite quickly and continued along the southern edge. Team members were deployed into the area and the walkers were met by a Buxton section as they descended the Pennine Way at Jacobs Ladder. They were none the worse for their experience.

Team transport was provided and the walkers were returned to their vehicle at Edale. A team spokesperson added “ Following separation on Kinder Scout each walker was concerned for the safety of the other. They were appropriately equipped for the weather conditions”.
