Incident report
Buxton and Edale joint snatch squad called out following the report of an injured mountain biker in Cave Dale. The accident had occurred following a night of heavy rain which had turned the popular Limestone Way into a river.
The teams rendezvoused near to Castleton Youth Hostel to make the one kilometre ascent up Cave Dale. The injured 44 year old man was an experienced mountain biker from Reading in Berkshire. He was treated on scene by East Midlands Ambulance crew and team first aiders for a suspected fracture of the right femur. Following treatment and splinting to his injured leg the man was carried by stretcher a short distance to where the Yorkshire Air-ambulance had managed to land. The casualty was then transfered to a hospital in Sheffield.
