Mam Tor Old Road

Buxton Edale snatch squad called to evacuate an 11 year old boy from Mansfield, Notts who had been walking down the old Mam Tor Road with his parents when he was blown over the edge by the very strong winds. He fell about 50 feet, landing on a very steep rocky hillside. He was initially unconscious and also sustained injuries to his head, shoulder, elbow and ankle. Stoney Middleton

Buxton Edale snatch squad called by the East Midlands Ambulance Service to assist in the evacuation of a 12 year old girl, from Warsop, Nottinghamshire, who had slipped and fallen sustaining an injury to her upper leg/thigh, aggravating a pre-existing medical condition, whilst walking to Carlswark Cavern. She was treated on site by the ambulance service paramedics and we evacuated her by stretcher, some 400 metres to a waiting ambulance. She was then transferred to the Chesterfield Royal Hospital for further treatment.

Hurkling Stones, Derwent Edge

Buxton Edale snatch squad called to locate and evacuate a 48 year old female from Notts, after a call had been made via South Yorkshire Police to indicate that the casualty had collapsed with exhaustion and was unable to continue. Whilst the teams were on route, the duty incident controller made a number of attempts to contact the casualty party but was not able to. After a short search of possible evacuation routes, the party was located and it appeared that one of the group, all medical professionals, may have rung in a little prematurely, although the casualty in her …

Alfreton

Buxton dogs called to assist in the search for a 42 year old male who had failed to return after walking his dog. Search dog Megan did not find the casualty but did indicate at the edge of a large stream in spate; search dog Tyke from Edale team also showed interest in an area of the opposite bank downstream. Further searching using the police thermal imaging on the helicopter located nothing and the search was stood down at 04:00.

Sadly, the body of the casualty was discovered in the stream the next morning, outside all the search …

Longstone Edge

In an unusual call, the Buxton Edale snatch squad was called to evacuate a 46 year old female from Dronsfield who had been found in her car which had left the road on a tight bend on Longstone Edge. The casualty had already been removed from the car by the fire service and the teams were used to evacuate the casualty down a steep slope to the air ambulance. The casualty, whose injuries were thought to be non-life threatening was flown to the Queens Medical Centre for further assessment. This incident attracted a great deal of media interest as it …
