At an early hour on Boxing Day, North West Ambulance Service contacted mountain rescue to ask assistance for one its ambulances which was stuck on a remote and ice plastered road. The ambulance, had been transferring patients from Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport to a Buxton Hospital and the last leg of its journey was to take an elderly patient to Congleton.

Kinder Scout, Western Edge

Buxton team called on Tuesday afternoon together with Kinder MRT following a telephone call from a male walking on Kinder Scout. 

At the time of the call the weather was appalling with heavy snow falling on to ground already covered in deep snow.  The man was caught in a whiteout snowstorm somewhere near to the summit of Mill Hill and began to panic when he realised that he had lost his bearings. Because of the poor road conditions team members struggled to get into the Edale Valley from where Buxton MRT was to start searching.   Some members made it to the rendezvous but …

Malcoff

A group of people from Wolverhampton thought it would be good fun to come to the Peak District for a days “off roading” in two four x four vehicles.  In weather that kept most people indoors they set off along the track towards Malcoff off Rushop Edge.   Both vehicles became stranded some two kilometres from the road and five people including a six year old had to call for assistance. 

In darkness, deep snow and strong winds Buxton team responded to the call-out with its own Land Rover and crew of four.   The party was quickly located and helped back to …

North West Ambulance Service requested assistance with a a 13 year old casualty at Mow Cop near Congleton.  The call was cancelled shortly afterwards and before the attendance of any team members.  Details not known.

Macclesfield Forest

An incident involving a lady from Newall Green in Manchester resulted in 22 team members travelling to Standing Stone car park in Macclesfield Forest. A 62 year old female had slipped in the icy conditions whilst walking on the forest tracks near to Ferriser. She had a suspected ankle fracture.

Initial assistance came from a passing walking party that contained two doctors.  The rescue team and county ambulance were both summoned.  Following treatment at the incident site the lady was carried by rescue vehicle back to Standing Stone car park where the ambulance was …
