Weston on Trent

Two Buxton MRT search dogs & their handlers, along with three other search dogs from Mountain Rescue teams in the Peak District, were called to assist Derby MRT with a search for a missing person, a 74 year old male.

The search was conducted from late morning through to the darkness of early evening. All areas, which consisted of woodland and open agricultural land, were searched without locating the missing person. He was eventually found safe and well outside of the search areas.

Millers Dale

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to Millers Dale to asssit the ambulance service late at night.

It was reported that a young person had collapsed on the Monsal Trail. We located a 16 year old girl from Gillingham, Kent, near to Bridge 75 and the steps into Chee Dale. She had suffered a medical collapse, and was treated on site by the ambulance service paramedics.

Neil Carruthers, Buxton Team Leader said “We provided access along the Monsal Trail enabling the ambulance to drive to the casualty site directly, and assisted the crew with the evacuation into the ambulance”.

Kinder Scout

Buxton team, plus a search dog, called to look for a walker lost in hill fog.

A lone male hill walker, in his 40s, reported being lost in thick fog on Kinder Scout. His last known location was Kinder Low trig point. Kinder MRT initiate a search along the Western edges, but having not found anyone for over an hour, activate both Glossop and Buxton MRT’s, including a search dog, to broaden the search to the north and south west of the plateau. Seach dog, Zak, with handler, called to reinforce a search for a walker lost in hill fog.

The search was initiated by Kinder MRT who called for reinforcement from Buxton MRT in order to expand the search area. See post for team call-out for details.

Tor Rock, nr. Chrome Hill

An early afternoon call-out in overcast conditions to the steep grassy slopes near Chrome Hill in Upper Dovedale.

The casualty, a 61 year old woman from the Nottingham area, had slipped in the wet ground conditions, injuring her ankle. She was treated on site by EMAS paramedics, then loaded onto a stretcher and carried by team members for c. 300 metres downhill to a farmer’s Land Rover. Sitting upright in the back, she was driven to a waiting ambulance, transferred, and taken to Macclesfield General Hospital for futher care and attention.
