Kinder Low / Jacobs Ladder

Following a day of low cloud and extremely poor visibility a gentleman from Nottingham called for advice when he became unsure of his position on Kinder Scout.  Daylight was starting to fail so Kinder and Buxton MRTs were called to start preparations for a search of the western side of the moor.  Following a later phone call with the Duty PDMRO Incident Controller the solo walker was reassured that he was on the right track to return to Edale via Jacobs Ladder.

Kinder Low

A Buxton Search Dog Unit was called as part of a full team response to a disorientated walker on the Kinder plateau.

The unit was en-route when the situation was resolved and a stand-down was issued.

Monsal Trail, nr Bakewell

A joint Buxton Edale snatch squad call to the Monsal Trail, following reports of a collapsed walker in the afternoon.

Team members located a 75 year old male, from Sheffield, on the trail between Bakewell and Hassop. He was treated on site by team members and evacuated by vehicle to the Bakewell Showground and handed over to the East Midlands Ambulance Service and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland Air Ambulance personnel.

The gentleman was then transported to hospital in a land ambulance.

Kinder Scout, Southern Edges

Whilst deployed on an active call-out, the team was approached by man and his two children from the Nottingham area, reporting that he and his wife had become separated whilst walking on the southern edges.

Two small sections of team members were deployed via Ringing Roger and Grindsbrook to locate her. She was found walking down towards Edale, safe and well.

A team spokesperson said “Although the visibility on the southern edges was reasonably good, the wind chill was significant”.

Kinder Scout, Southern Edges

A joint Edale Buxton snatch squad call to Edale village for a lady reported to be suffering from exhaustion and hypothermia on the southern edges of Kinder Scout.

Team members located the lady in the Hartshorn area. She was very cold and team members spent some time in slowly warming her up, by placing her in a shelter tent and providing high energy foods and drink.

After some time she had recovered enough and was able to walk down to Edale Village with team members via Ringing Roger and the Nab.
