Lee House, Upper Booth

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to assist East Midlands paramedics and an air-ambulance crew dealing with an incident near to Lee House Farm, Upper Booth in the Edale Valley.

An 18 year old male was part of a school group from Croydon participating in a Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award expedition when he slipped crossing a stile and sustained back injuries.   Initial treatment was by ambulance staff who then placed the casualty on a spinal board.  Team members then assisted in the stretcher carry out of a boggy situation and across a river to where the air-ambulance was waiting.

Leadmill, Hathersage

Buxton MRT called to rendezvous at Coppice Wood, Leadmill on the B6001, Hathersage to Grindleford road.  Not normally Buxton’s operational patch at weekend but Edale MRT was already committed to another call-out.   Buxton had members fund-raising in Castleton and were quickly responding.

The report was of a runner taking part in the High Peak Triathlon having suffered an ankle injury whilst crossing a river.  However, not being far from the road, the casualty had already been treated by an ambulance crew before the first team members arrived.   The remainder of the team were stood down on route.

Youlgreave

A lack of initial information triggered a full team response to a call-out at midnight on Friday night. However, in the event only a few members were required to assist the crew of an East Midlands Ambulance in the centre of Youlgreave village.  The ambulance service had been called to a cottage where a gentleman was reported to be suffering heart problems.  However, the location of the cottage, sited on a steep narrow hill, meant the crew were unable to carry the man to the ambulance.  Team members quickly assisted the crew with the carry and the gentleman was soon …

Rushop Edge

Twelve members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team responded to a call-out following the report from East Midlands Ambulance Service of an injured walker near to Lord’s Seat on Rushop Edge.

The casualty, a 56 year old female from Glossop, was walking with a group when a simple trip resulted in a fractured wrist.  Team members made their way to the incident site with a stretcher and first aid equipment.  However, an air-ambulance was available so the lady, who was in considerable pain, was quickly assisted to the helicopter for transport to hospital.

Lathkill Dale, Monyash

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called in the early hours of Thursday morning to a serious multi casualty incident in Lathkill Dale.   Two males had fallen some 25 feet over a crag coming to rest on a steep grassy slope.  In total darkness and heavy rain the team worked with East Midlands Ambulance crews and EMAS’s Hazardous Area Response Team to treat the casualties who sustained suspected spinal injuries and a fractured leg.  A third male, who had gone to their …
