Hathersage

A Joint Snatch Squad callout to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service dealing with female walker who had slipped descending a track near to Greenwood Farm, Hathersage.

She was treated for a suspected leg/ankle fracture by the crew of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance before being carried for a short distance on a mountain rescue stretcher.

A short duration call-out off Buxton’s normal patch and, although several members were on route, only two arrived in time to assist with the evacuation.

Hoffman Quarry

Early evening on Saturday Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were requested to attend an incident at Harpur Hill, Buxton to assist the ambulance service with a climbing accident on the Upper Tier of Hoffman Quarry. The casualty, a 26 year old lady from London who was with a climbing group, but not climbing at the time, had been hit by a limestone flake dislodged by a lead climber near to the top of the route “Galaxy Quest”, a 5a climb. The rock caused a glancing blow to the head causing a wound, which was below the helmet she was wearing.  Due to the …

Giant’s Hole

Buxton and Edale team’s Joint Snatch Squad was called to rendezvous at the famous Giant’s Hole cave near Eldon Quarry following a request from East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Casualty was a 25 year old female from London on an week long activity week taking part in many new and challenging experiences. The previous day was spenting “weaseling” in nearby rocks. Whilst the group was walking towards Giant’s Hole to go caving she felt unwell and collapsed. She recovered from the collapse but had potentially sustained injuries to her shoulder and back.

Tideswell

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called at 03.00 in the morning following the report to police of a man missing from home in Tideswell.

The rescue team established a control-point at Tideswell Dale car park and twenty team members and four search and rescue dogs radiated out on the local paths in search for the missing 69 year old.   The appalling heavy rain gave concern for the man’s safety and welfare but he was located within two hours in a fit and well condition.
