Jim Duffy, Oldham M.R.T

Buxton team members were shocked this week to here of the sudden death of Jim Duffy, a leading figure in Oldham Mountain Rescue Team.jim duffy

Jim died suddenly on Thursday at the age of only 57.  Jim had been connected to mountain rescue from the age of 17 when he first joined Derby MRT.   In 1980 Jim moved to the Oldham area and soon joined the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team.  He became Team Leader in 1986 serving for six years.  Jim worked hard for team and region and was currently Equipment Officer for The Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation.

He was always looking for improvements in technical rescue systems and and was one of the inspirations behind the annual Oldham MRT Rescue Weekend which continues to deliver specialist rope skills training to rescuers from all over the Country.

Buxton members send their most sincere condolences to Jim’s family and to his many close friends in the mountain rescue world.  A very sad loss and much too early.DSC00915
