Team chosen to be TSB “Charity of the Year”!

The TSB Buxton Branch has chosen the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team as its Local Charity Partner for 2015.

This week, Dave Goodman, Fundraising Manager for the rescue team, visited the branch on Spring Gardens, Buxton, to collect an initial chequeTSB Presentation 2 May 2015 of £100.  The local TSB branch will be holding several fundraising activities throughout the year, including “guess the hamper value?”, a coffee morning, “how far will Ted travel on his holidays?”   Several of the branch staff will also bravely take part in a sponsored abseil.

Instead of having a centrally chosen Charity of the Year, TSB Partners across Britain are empowered to recognise local causes which share the Bank’s passion for helping local communities thrive. Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was selected from a shortlist of charities nominated by local TSB customers and partners.

Ola Tomzcak, Branch Manager at TSB in Buxton said “I’m delighted to announce Buxton Mountain Rescue Team as our first local Charity Partner in Buxton. Our focus at TSB is to serve local customers and businesses in order to fuel local economies, and that’s why we’re launching a new approach to how we support charity and community.  Buxton Mountain Rescue do amazing work in the area and it was really important to us to pick a Charity Partner that gives so much back to the community. We can’t wait to get our fundraising off the ground and work together to make a real impact locally.”

Roger Bennett, Operations Secretary said “As an organisation dependent on charity, Buxton M.R.T will sincerely appreciate the help with fundraising.  However, to be chosen as a “Charity of the Year” by such a prestigious high street bank means more than just cash to the team’s volunteer members.  It’s an indication that the rescue team and its work is appreciated in the local community and that in itself is a great reward.  The support of Buxton TSB is greatly welcomed and valued by the charity trustees and all the team members.

As a totally volunteer organisation the team has no salaries to pay so every penny donated goes straight towards providing the vehicles, equipment and training that its members need to continue operating the rescue service.  Replacing worn out casualty-care equipment is an expensive priority so help with funding is truly appreciated. It is anticipated that money raised by TSB will enable the team to replace one of our vacuum matresses, which is used on most rescues. Spending budgets are prudently managed with great regard for the good will and generosity behind the gift which makes each purchase possible.”
