Dr Anthony (Tony) Jones M.B.E.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team members have been saddened to hear of the death Tony Jones 1on Friday of a stalwart supporter of mountain rescue since the 1960s, Dr Anthony Jones M.B.E.

Tony first joined Ogwen Valley MRT in 1966 later becoming its Chairman, a post he held for twenty-one years.  He also served on the Mountain Rescue Committee (now Mountain Rescue England and Wales) for many years holding the post of Vice-Chairman.

He was an advocate of American style search techniques running courses and lecturing around the world.  Tony was a larger than life character known to everyone in mountain rescue throughout the Country.  In 1993 appeared on the classic television programme, “This is Your Life” and in the following year was awarded a Member of the British Empire medal for his services.

Tony died peacefully in a Bangor hospital on Friday 6th May 2016 aged 77 years following a long illness.
