Incident report

Buxton and Edale Snatch Squad called to a hang-gliding accident on the face of Mam Tor above Castleton.  

On arrival we located a 52 year old male who had been hang-gliding, and then collided with Mam Tor face. He was treated on site, and then taken from the face by rescue team personnel. Once transferred into an ambulance, he was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport.

The man sustained severe injuries and, sadly, died the following morning. We send our sincere condolences to his family and friends.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident is being undertaken by Derbyshire Police and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.
