Jacobs Ladder

On Sunday Buxton team was called to Barber Booth, Edale, following reports of an incident on Jacobs Ladder.

The casualty, a 73 year old female from Knaresborough, had been walking in the area with her son when she became unwell and collapsed. She had recovered sufficiently to start walking when she was met by team members making their way up to her location. She was treated by team members and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance doctor. The helicopter had landed some distance away due to the difficult terrain. Froggatt Edge

A joint Buxton and Edale snatch squad was called to the climbing area of Froggatt Edge on Friday afternoon.

A 22 year old male climber had fallen about 8 metres from a route called “Three Pebbled Slab” and then rolled and tumbled as far again from the base of the crag.

He was treated by Edale team doctors and paramedic for suspected spinal and pelvic injuries, placed on a spinal board, and then in a vacuum mattress. Rescuers carried him to the top of the crag, using both hand over hand and wheeling, to a waiting air ambulance.

Corbar area, Buxton

Late on Saturday night Buxton Team was called to assist the police in a search for a vulnerable 33 year old male from the Derby area.

The team was called to Corbar Road, Buxton, following the discovery of his car nearby. Search areas were identified, which included Corbar Woods, Corbar Cross, and Coldsprings Plantation.

Twenty two team members with two search and rescue dogs, together with police officers were deployed into these areas. The missing man later made contact with his family saying he was in Buxton Town Centre. He was collected by police.

The team was stood down.

Colbourne Moor, Rushop Edge

Buxton Mountain Rescue was called to Rushop Edge on Sunday afternoon following a call about a bog-fast person in a group doing a Duke of Edinburgh award.

The group of five were on the final leg of their expedition from Brown Knoll and were heading for Edale, when one of them, a 17 year old female from Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, walked into the peat bog. The group tried, together with supervisors, to release her, without success.

Roych Clough

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were interrupted for a second time during a First Aid training exercise to help search for a group of lost walkers in open country between South Head and Rushup Edge.

The group consisted of five sixteen year old girls from the Accrington area, engaged in a weeks outdoor activity. Contact via mobile phone enabled the team to identify a probable search area, and two team vehicles with personnel were deployed.

Having located the group, they were escorted to the road – and following some refreshment, transported by team vehicle back to their accommodation in Edale.

Fernilee, Goyt Valley

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were out on their regular training night when a call came for a potential search for a missing person in the Goyt Valley.

The team were quickly redeployed to the location of the incident. Whilst en-route, they were notified that the police had located the missing person, unharmed, in farm buildings near Fernilee.

The team was stood down.

Crowden Brook

A joint Buxton Edale snatch squad was called to search the southern edges of Kinder Scout this afternoon.

A family of three were reported as lost in low cloud in the area above Crowden Brook. The weather was damp having rained heavily in the morning and continuing with intermitttent showers thereafter.

Whilst the teams were en-route, the family managed to ascertain their location, and no longer required assistance. Rescue personnel were stood down.

Monsal Trail

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called out around lunch-time to assist the East Midlands Ambulance Service with an injured walker.

The casualty, a 69 year old lady from Keithley, was walking with her husband in Chee Dale when she slipped on the muddy path and fractured her ankle. Heavy rain in the morning had made ground conditions very wet. She was treated on site by ambulance personnel, then carried on a stretcher by the rescue team to a waiting land ambulance.

The ambulance transported the woman to Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, for further treatment.

Edale Youth Hostel

An hour after the conclusion of a previous call-out, Buxton Mountain Rescue were called upon at a very early hour, to assist the ambulance service to collect a seriously injured person in a rural location.

The casualty was reported as having fallen from a first floor window onto a hard surface surrounded by steep terrain. He sustained significant back and head injuries. The EMAS crew attended him on site, but required extra help to transfer him to the waiting ambulance. Kinder Scout

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called out as night fell to search Kinder moor for two walkers who were trapped by deep bog without lights or whistle.

Although the casualties, a married couple from Doncaster, had no apparent injuries, they were very cold and disorientated. The night was damp and misty at high level, with some wind. They had set off for a days walk from Edale, up Grindsbrook to Kinder Downfall.  Returning on a GPS bearing, the female became trapped in deep wet bog at 16.30 hrs.
