Parkhouse Hill, Glutton

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to rendezvous at Glutton Bridge Garage on the Buxton to Longnor road following the report of a man having collapsed on Parkhouse Hill.

Grindsbrook, Edale

Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams called out following the report a a man having sustained a knee injury whilst climbing Grindsbrook Clough.

The 44 year old man from Rossington, Doncaster, had been walking when he twisted his left knee preventing him from continuing.   At the time of the report Edale MRT had members fundraising in Edale village so equipment was soon on its way up the valley.  Buxton team was engaged at Dove Holes Carnival but detached two vehicles and nine members to assist with the …

Hen Cloud, The Roaches.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called mid-evening to assist West Midlands Ambulance Service dealing with a fallen climber on Hen Cloud, Staffordshire.  An event hampered by heavy rain and the onset of darkness.

A lady climber, local to Buxton, had fallen and sustained a potential fracture of an ankle when she landed on a rocky ledge, about three metres above ground.  First aid was given by West Midlands Ambulance staff (one of which happened to be a member of Cheshire A.L.S.A.R.) and a Buxton team doctor.  The …

Grindsbrook, Edale

A lengthy call-out for the Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams’ Joint Snatch Squad following a report of a child having fallen in the upper reaches of Grindsbrook sustaining back injuries.

The 12 year old boy from Kent was on an organised adventure holiday when he slipped on the rocks, falling about one metre and landing badly.  The incident occurred in one of the most difficult locations from which to extract a casualty where the rough gritstone boulders make stretcher handling a real challenge.  The steep …

Millers Dale

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to assist the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland air-ambulance just 300 metres north of the old station on the Monsal Cycle-way.    A Lady on holiday from Norfolk had fallen from her hired cycle and sustained a serious, open fracture of her wrist.

Aircraft paramedics treated the lady’s injuries before she was placed on a mountain rescue stretcher.  The steep limestone sides of Millers Dale meant that the aircraft had had to land in a field over half a kilometre away.  Team members carried …

Penistone, South Yorks

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to make plans in order to assist South Yorkshire Police with a major search for a vulnerable 10 year child missing in the Penistone district.

Buxton and all other PDMRO teams, together with the Search and Rescue Dog Association  were asked to provide as many members as possible for a 07.00 rendezvous on the following day.  Woodhead MRT  and several search dogs were already committed to searching through the night.

Buxton MRT had eighteen members available for the morning search but fortunately the child was found safe and well by police shortly after the request was received.

Chee Dale

Eighteen members of the Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams’ Joint Snatch Squad were called to Chee Dale near to Chee Tor stepping stones following reports of an injured rock climber.  The 31 year old man from Sheffield had been reaching upwards when his shoulder dislocated.  His climbing partner was able to lower him to the river side path but the pain prevented him from walking any distance.

East Midlands Ambulance Service was first on scene with a paramedic able to render pain relief to the casualty.  The …

Whitemoor Cloughs, Edale Valley

Seventeen members of the Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams’ Snatch Squad were called following reports of a walker with leg injuries near Dale Head bunkhouse at the west end of the Edale Valley.

The casualty was part of a group originating from Coventry but staying at a bunkhouse in Nether Booth.  A further update established her position as being higher on to the moor than was first thought and easier access was gained using the Chapel Gate Track.  Team members treated the casualty on site …

Mam Tor Ridge

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called following the report of a 7 year old having become separated from his family on a walk along the ridge line.  Despite frantic efforts by the family the boy could not be found and so a call to the police was made.

Buxton team responded sending team members along the ridge from Mam Tor towards Hollins Cross and some in the opposite direction towards Lord’s Seat.  Team vehicles also patrolled the roads.

Crowden Clough

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to assist a female walker having difficulty getting off Kinder Scout.  The lady, accompanied by her daughter, had a previous medical condition and had become exhausted.   The casualty was quickly located at the top of Crowden Brook under Crowden Towers and following examination was assisted to walk off the hill.

First reports indicated that a stretcher evacuation was likely so the necessary equipment was deployed from Upper Booth.  Edale Mountain Rescue Team was also called to assist in the event of a carry-off but fortunately the lady was able to walk all the way down.
