Mam Tor, Castleton

Members of an Edale, and Buxton Mountain Rescue snatch squad assisted East Midlands Ambulance Service following the report of a woman who had been blown over by extreme winds.  The 54 year old woman from Kerridge near Bollington, Macclesfield had been walking on the old road from Blue John Mine to Odin Mine when a strong gust blew her from her feet.  The lady, who suffered head injuries, was treated on site by rescue team first aiders and then carried by stretcher to a waiting ambulance for transport to hospital.

Peak Cavern, Castleton

A joint snatch squad of Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams was called to respond to a report of a collapsed male inside the popular show cavern entrance.  

On arrival the team found that the ambulance crew had been able to deal with the situation without further assistance.  Team members were stood down, many before arrival at Castleton.

Crowden Head, Kinder Scout

About midday a 39 year old gentleman from Oldham had been walking with two friends on the summit of Kinder Scout when they decided to stop and sit awhile.  When he came to get up the man found that his back had gone into a muscular spasm and he could not rise.  The casualty was in some pain and unable to continue with the walk.

Goyt Valley

Buxton Mountain Rescue were called by Peak Park Rangers, at the request of the local landowner, to attempt to rescue a crag-fast sheep. The sheep was on a ledge above the cold waters of Erwood Reservoir. Despite a fall into the water which could have been fatal, the animal was safely recovered, much to the delight of a small crowd of onlookers. 

Whilst animal rescue is not something that we train for, the team are always happy to try and assist the local farmers who provide us with access to train across our operational area.

Eyam Moor

Edale and Buxton snatch squad called by East Midlands Ambulance Service to rendezvous at Bretton following an emergency call from a solo walker suffering breathing difficulties.   The first rescue parties to arrive were unable to locate the man, which prompted a search of Bretton and Eyam Moors.  An air-ambulance briefly joined the search but had to retreat when low cloud blew in and reduced visibility.    The man was known to have two dogs with him but 45 minutes searching failed to locate him.  Having partially recovered from his breathing problems, the casualty had started to …

Tissington Trail

Immediately following an incident at Rushup Edge, the team was called to Parsley Hey car park on the Tissington Trail.  A request for assistance had been received from East Midlands Ambulance Service following the report of a 51 year old female having sustained an ankle injury near to Ruby Wood between Hartington and Biggin.   The call-out was aborted within fifteen minutes when it was reported that assistance was not required.  The two team vehicles and twelve team members that were on route were stood down before arrival.  Full details of the incident are not known.

Rushup Edge

A joint snatch squad of Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams was called to Mam Nick where a 49 year old female had slipped on the muddy path whilst descending from Rushup Edge towards Mam Nick.

The casualty, from Melton Mowbray, was treated on site for a suspected fracture of the right ankle before being carried to the nearest road and a waiting East Midlands Ambulance.

Monk’s Dale, Miller’s Dale

A joint snatch squad of  Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams called to Miller’s Dale station car park at the request of East Midlands Ambulance Service.  A 65 year old female casualty, one of a large walking group on the Limestone Way, had slipped in Monk’s Dale and sustained a suspected fractured ankle.  The lady, from Chesterfield, was treated on site and then carried on a team stretcher to a roadside ambulance.

Macclesfield Forest

All operational members and dog handlers of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were placed on standby for a potential search for a lost family group.

Five adults with a nineteen month old baby lost their way on the forest path back to the Standingstone carpark after a walk upto the summit of Shutlingsloe. The forest path was in total darkness and the temperature had started to plumit to below freezing. The mention of the baby must have caused serious concern to Cheshire emergency services which responded with two ambulances, a paramedic response vehicle, two police vehicles and a …
