Harboro Rocks

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to Harboro Rocks, near Brassington. Although this location is within the operational area of the Derby Team, they were already committed to a search in Staffordshire.

A 12 year old boy from New Mills was with a school group walking the High Peak Trail. When he went to explore the neighbouring Harboro Rocks, he slipped on loose rock and sustained a suspected lower leg fracture/dislocation.

He was treated on site by the crew of the air ambulance which had landed nearby and flown to the Royal Derby Hospital for further treatment. The team was stood down …

Froggart Edge

Buxton and Edale Muntain Rescue Teams were called to Froggatt Edge, near Calver, on Tuesday morning.

An 18 year old male climber was attempting to solo a route in the “Downhill Racer” area when he fell about 10 metres. Fortunately he was wearing a helmet. He was however treated on site for possible head, back, leg and arm injuries.

The young man was then evacuated by stretcher to the top of the crag by rescue team personnel, placed into the waiting Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance and flown to the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham for further treatment.

Kinder Scout

On Wednesday night, 27 members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, together with two search dogs, began a 4 hour operation to locate and recover a walker benighted on Kinder Scout.

The 33 year old male from Cambridge had called for assistance when it was clear that he wasn’t going to make it off the hill in daylight. He had set off from Edale Village in the morning, embarking on a lengthy route taking in a large part of the Edale Watershed. Returning towards Edale on the Old Pennine Way route across Kinder he became lost.

Staffordshire Police requested assistance in recovering an elderly female who was stranded in a car that had lost control on sheet ice along an untreated minor road.

On arrival it was clear that the road was dangerously icy: it was impossible to stand on the approach to the steep incident section and not slip, so team members had to use crampons and ice grippers to access the vehicle. Inside, there was a 96 year old female from Derby, who had been enjoying a day out with her son from London. She was evacuated on a stretcher to the village centre, where …

Gradbach

Teaam called in the afternoon following reports of an injured person in Forest Wood, east of Lud’s Church. The weather conditions were thick hill mist, freezing rain, with snow covering the ground.

The casualty, a 17 year old female from Hasland, Chesterfield, had slipped and sustained lower leg injuries whilst walking. Team members were deployed with equipment, assisted by a local farmer in his off-road vehicle. Having been stationary for about 2 hours, the casualty was very cold, wet, and in pain. Kinder Scout, Southern Edges

A joint snatch squad of Buxton and Edale Mountina Rescue teams, together with 4 search dogs, responded to a call-out for two walkers stranded by an icy waterfall on the plateau.

The missing walkers were a male aged 26, and a lady, aged 35, both from Dronfield near Chesterfield. Both were equipped for a days walking, carried a rucksack and a map. Although neither were injured, it was dark, very cold and the fact that they had fallen on ice into water attempting to descend Crowden Brook created concern about their welfare.

Kinder Scout

Early evening, Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and search dogs were called to Barber Booth, Edale.

A lone 54 year old male walker had telephoned his wife to say he had twisted his knee and was lost on Kinder Scout. The couple were on holiday in the Peak District staying locally in the Hayfield area.

Our colleagues in the Kinder Team couldn’t talk to the walker, presuming his mobile phone battery had gone down. However, it was thought he was somewhere in the Kinder Low area. Buxton Team and search dogs were tasked with searching the Jacobs Ladder, Kinder Southern Edges to Crowden …

Druid’s Stone, Kinder plateau

A Buxton & Edale Mountain Rescue snatch squad was called to Edale in the early darkness of Sunday evening.

A couple from the Bedford area, walking on Kinder Scout had telephoned for assistance on becoming benighted. One person had sustained an ankle injury and was unable to walk rendering both cold from inaction. They gave their location as somewhere between Ringing Roger and Madwoman’s Stones on the south eastern side of the Kinder Plateau.

They were using a smart phone which was connected to the internet and had an inbuilt geographical locator. A system known as SARLOC, developed by Russ …

Lose Hill

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to the Hope Valley on Saturday afternoon following reports of an injured walker on Lose Hill.

We located a 57 year old female from Stretford, Manchester, who had slipped on the icy and muddy surface whilst descending from Lose Hill into the Hope valley. She had fractured her left ankle, and by being immobile was becoming cold. After, Buxton’s Team Leader had treated her with pain relief, her leg was splintered.
