Incident report

The team was called to Luds Church, Gradbach to assist in a multi-agency response to help a lady walker who had fallen in Luds Church, a natural geological chasm some 100 metres long and 18 metres deep. Luds Church is a popular and interesting natural feature on many walks in the Staffordshire Peak District.

The team worked alongside Staffordshire Fire and RescueMidlands Air Ambulance, Staffordshire Police, West Midlands Ambulance Service, First Responders,West Midlands Hazard Area Response and the local landowners, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, to effect the rescue.

The lady from the Stoke on Trent area, was carried for just over a kilometer on a stretcher from Luds Church to the field next to the Scout Camp and loaded into the air ambulance and transferred to hospital.

We would like to thank the Gradbach Scout Camp for providing copious cups of tea, coffee, cheese and biscuits at the end of the call out; your thoughtfulness was very much appreciated by all parties involved; thank you.
