Incident report

Three walkers had parked their car at Edale and made their way up to the Kinder Plateau hoping to enjoy a circular route, taking in some of the landmarks, before returning to their car. However, the thick low cloud made navigation difficult, and as night fell, and uncertain of their position, they took the sensible decision to dial 999 and ask for Police and then Mountain Rescue.

Our response vehicles met in the main car park at Edale, and as team members began to arrive a search plan was put together to cover the likely areas where the walkers were lost. The first sections were deployed to search where phone find technology had identified their approximate location. Over the phone the walkers were also able to describe aspects of their location and so were advised to stay in position until team members arrived.

Very soon the walkers were found safe and well, and after an initial assessment of their condition were guided off the hill to Edale Village and the onward journey home.

Team vehicles were then returned to base to be cleaned as per our Covid-19 guidelines and made ready for the next callout.
