Incident report

Just as a day of Christmas shopping was coming to an end, a call was received from the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation controller. A group of walkers was reported to have become disorientated in the thick mist around the Woolpacks area of Kinder Scout. The team’s deputy team leader sent out a SARCALL message to ask for 12 volunteers to meet at Edale station to be tasked with heading onto Kinder Scout from various directions.

The team’s vehicles, Mobile 3 and Mobile 1 made their way, meeting up with other team members in Edale. Small sections of the team then made their way onto Grindslow Knoll, above Crowdon Clough and Jacob’s ladder. As the area of the Woolpacks is shared with Kinder Mountain Rescue Team, Kinder sections made their way in 4x4s up the rocky track towards Edale Cross and then on foot along the southern edge path.

Thankfully, the casualty party was located within the Woolpacks, which can be a maze in the dark and mist, by a Kinder MRT section. The walkers were cold and wet, but otherwise okay. They were then walked back to Edale Cross and transported off the hill in 4x4s.

Thanks to all the volunteers who gave up their their evening to attend this call out.
