Incident report

While out for the day on the Great Ridge, a walker slipped on the descent from Hollins Cross to Odin’s Mine, sustaining a lower leg injury.

Both Edale Mountain Rescue Team and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were called to the scene to carry the casualty back to the road. Team members made their way up to Hollins Cross from Woodseats Farm, and along the ridge to the casualty site.

After an initial medical assessment, team members decided to sledge the casualty on a mountain rescue stretcher to a lower path, before evacuation to the old road. The casualty was then driven to further medical treatment by another member of the party in their own vehicle.

As usual, Covid-19 protocols featured both during and after the incident as vehicles were made ready for the next callout.

The Great Ridge is one of the most popular walks in the UK so hopefully the casualty will be back soon to enjoy the area’s attractions.
