Incident report

Less than 24 hours after the resumption of our first face to face training session for many months, which happened to be at HenCloud, the previous night, the team received a call from our colleagues at the West Midlands Ambulance Service, and a request to return to Hen Cloud.

Having just refreshed ourselves in the use of rope systems and crag rescue we turned out to help with the evacuation of a casualty close to the top of Hen Cloud. The paramedics were already on scene providing the initial medical care; our role was to deploy a mountain rescue stretcher and prepare for the carry out to the road, and the waiting land ambulance.

As you would expect, much of our training involves carrying casualties over steep, slippery ground and the casualty was soon down the path, over a couple of walls, and loaded safely into the ambulance, for transfer to hospital and the next phase of his care.

We then began the now familiar routine of disinfecting equipment, repacking the vehicles, collection and disposal of PPE and return to base ready for the next call out.

We hope the casualty has a quick recovery and is able to enjoy the delights of the Hen Cloud and Roaches area very soon.
