Incident report

Today’s first callout was to a lady who had slipped on the path next to Heardman’s Plantation Grindsbrook, Edale.

Team members from both Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams were called to assist in a joint operation and vehicles were deployed from both bases. The fall had resulted in a lower leg injury and with the casualty in great pain, and unable to walk. A stretcher evacuation back to the valley floor was required before onwards transport to hospital.

Initial medical care was given by the Edale team members, who were first on scene, and after the administration of pain relief and fitting of a box splint the casualty was sledged down the hillside on a stretcher, before fitting the wheel to the stretcher and the casualty carried to the footbridge over the river.

After a well rehearsed and straight-forward transfer down the steps, across the narrow bridge and up the steps to the road, the casualty was soon at the village and in the care of East Midlands Ambulance Service.

After further medical assessment the casualty was then transferred to hospital while team members began the cleaning of equipment and preparation for the next callout.

We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.

As team members were leaving Edale, a second call out came in……….
