A little bit of deja vu with today’s callout. Due to extremely slippery conditions over the ridge of Chrome Hill a small group of walkers wisely chose a low level route into Dowel Dale. Unfortunately, whilst descending a grassy path the casualty slipped causing a painful injury to the right ankle. For the second time in a few days, the team met in Glutton Bridge where team members were transferred in the response vehicles to the base of Chrome Hill. After an extremely muddy and very slippery ascent three team members arrived at the casualty’s location. The weather at the casualty site was extremely wet and windy so the casualty, casualty carer and first aid scribe took shelter inside a box tent.
The casualty’s dog, Willow and a friend were walked back to the team’s control vehicle to stay warm and dry out of the elements.
Following the primary survey protocol, it was established that the walker had suffered a possible fracture to the right ankle.
After confirming that the blood circulation was okay to the foot, the casualty was loaded onto the mountain rescue stretcher and sledged over water logged ground to awaiting vehicles, and then to hospital in a friend’s car.
The team then returned to Base and restocked the vehicles and cleaned them, ready for the next call out.
We send the team’s best wishes to the casualty on a speedy recovery.
