Incident report

Buxton Mountain Rescue called to evacuate a woman in the Biggin Dale area.

The casualty, a 80 year old female, from Bedfordshire, was part of a walking party staying at Hartington Youth hostel. Whilst walking, she slipped on uneven ground and sustained  arm and facial injuries. Fortunately the walking group were able to find a position where they could get a mobile phone signal and were able to summon assistance. The casualty was treated on site by MR team members before being evacuated by stretcher down Biggin Dale and along Beresford Dale. This was an extended evacuation and had to be completed by fording the River Dove which while wet for the rescuers, was the safest and most comfortable route for the casualty.

The casualty was transferred to an East Midlands Ambulance for onward treatment at a hospital in Macclesfield.
