Saltersford, Rainow

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called-out to assist a Macclesfield ambulance crew (North West Ambulance Services NHS Trust) to help evacuate an 87 year old woman from a remote farm house.  The narrow and rough farm track was too much for the county ambulance and with no air-ambulance available, the help of mountain rescue was called upon.  The team responded with its own Land Rover ambulance backed up with fifteen team members.  Calling the extra man-power proved a good idea as the journey back up the track was deemed too rough to transport an elderly lady who had suffered a suspected stroke.  …

Curbar Edge

A Buxton & Edale Snatch Squad was called to Curbar Edge near Baslow where a 28-year-old male climber from Manchester had fallen 7 metres.  The casualty sustained a suspected fracture to the right lower leg.  Despite his injuries he was able to make his own way to the top of the crag to await assistance.  He was treated on scene by ambulance Paramedics and an Edale team doctor before being carried by stretcher to a waiting ambulance and then onwards to Chesterfield Hospital.

Golden Clough, Kinder Scout

The team was already committed to a search of Alderley Edge when a second incident was reported at Golden Clough, Kinder Scout.

A Hope Valley snatch squad comprising members of Buxton and Edale MRT’s was called at 11.40 am to rendezvous at Edale Station car park.  However, with most of the available Buxton team members already committed the job was mainly left to Edale team.  The incident was sparked by the medical collapse of a young female in the upper reaches of Golden Clough.  Despite treatment on site by Edale members, being light on numbers …

Alderley Edge

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and Kinder Mountain Rescue Team called at 07.00 to search Alderley Edge Country Park near Macclesfield, following a request from Cheshire Police relating to the sighting by the publican of the Wizard Hotel of a possible vulnerable male behaving strangely the previous night.   The publican and the police made a superficial search during the night but Police and Search Controllers decided to wait for daylight before calling out team members.   Thirty one members of the two rescue teams together …

Kinder Scout, Southern Edge

The team was called at 17.40 for another early evening search for an overdue party lost on Kinder Scout.  Three teams, four search dogs and a police helicopter were called out when a party of three adults became disorientated in mist and darkness on a walk over Kinder.

The party, two males and one female set off from Bowden Bridge, Hayfield at 12.30 pm for a walk along the eastern edge but under-estimated the conditions and the time required.  As darkness fell, and without any torches to read the map by, the party started to walk in completely the wrong direction.   Fortunately they werte in …
