Winnats Pass, Castleton

More stranded motorists!  This time a vehicle was reported to be stuck fast 300 metres down Winnats Pass, and the driver without proper clothing.

Three team members responded in the team Land Rover and made their way from the Wanted Inn towards the head of Winnats.  Despite ploughing, the road was still appalling with deep drifts built up by the wind. Before arriving at Winnats Pass other motorists had to be assisted and turned back.  On arrival in the Pass the team found that the original stranded vehicle had been extracted by a farmer and his tractor, but inevitably, other vehicles were soon stuck and the …

Cat and Fiddle road, A537

Another vehicle stuck in snow and a second trip to the Cat and Fiddle, Buxton to Macclesfield Road.  Police alerted the team to a VW van which had become stranded after ignoring the obvious “Road closed” signs. Concern for the welfare of the driver in the blizzard conditions meant the team responded with two members in its Land Rover. 

Road conditions were appalling with deep snow obliterating the edges of the roadway. The team arrived to find the vehicle in the safe hands of two 4×4 recovery vehicles!

A623 Tideswell Moor

A number of vehicles became stranded in deep snow on the A623, Tideswell Moor road as the snow continued to fall.  

The police were treating the matter seriously as it looked as if the motorist would be stuck in their vehicles overnight.  Buxton and Edale MRTs were asked to ferry the motorists to a place of sanctuary for the night.  Edale MRT was already dealing with another incident on Houdkirk Moor but Buxton team was able to rally members which had just returned from a previous incident.  A fleet of nine team and privately owned 4×4 vehicles had just set off towards Tideswell Moor …

Kinder Scout

Dave Mason and his trustee collie, Megan, battled snow filled roads to assist in the search for two people who reported themselves lost on Kinder Scout.  Despite their valiant efforts, the casualties were located by MR team members before Megan had a chance to stretch her legs on Jacob’s Ladder.

Kinder Low

A full team call-out for three rescue teams and search dogs following a report from two walkers stranded in darkness and blizzard conditions on the southwest point of Kinder Scout.

The walkers had visited Kinder Downfall but their only map blew away from their hands. In failing light and heavy snow they made their way along the edge path to find Kinder Low trig point.  But, with no map and a damaged compass they were unable to orientate their route off.
