Winnats Pass, Castleton

Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue teams called as a snatch squad to a walker with a medical condition above Speedwell Cavern.

The teams were stood down on arrival as the air ambulance was able to land close to the patient and hence did not require any additional assistance.

Woodbank Country Park, Stockport

A search was initiated in the dark and very early hours of the morning for the dog teams of Oldham and Kinder Mountain Rescue, assisted by Buxton.

Search Dog, Megan, with handler Dave Mason, were called to help police locate a missing 33 year old man from Stockport, in an area of urban parkland. The man was known to be in a vulnerable mental state. Despite prolonged and detailed searching in dense woodland and along a river bank in muddy, slippery, underfoot conditions, nothing was found.

The search was transferred to Bolton Mountain Rescue to continue during the daytime.

Stake side, Goyt valley

Buxton Mountain Rescue team were called to an incident not far from the Cat and Fiddle road this afternoon.

The casualty, a 37 year old woman from Bollington, was walking with a small family group when she decided to jump over a puddle, landed awkwardly, and broke her right ankle.

She was treated on site, and then carried by stretcher to a waiting ambulance for the onward journey to hospital.

As it was the lady’s birthday, the team felt obliged to sing to her in the customary manner – only she can judge whether this element of care was a soothing …

Millers Dale

Buxton Mountain Rescue team called to assist an injured walker in steep-sided limestone dale.

The casualty, a 52 year old man on holiday from Cleethorpes, had slipped descending some greasy steps and fell some distance, which resulted in injuries to both sides of his chest. He was treated on site by paramedics, and then carried on a stretcher by team members to a Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance waiting nearby for evacuation to hospital.

Cheedale

Buxton and Edale teams responded to calls for help, seemingly from injured climbers near Cressbrook.

As the police had received two separate reports, giving doubt as to the exact location of the incident, Edale was deployed  to Cressbrook Mill, and Buxton further west to Cheedale, according to the given grid reference. Buxton started a initial search for two climbers, but it soon turned out that the shouts had come from a member of a group who was not injured and who was able to walk off the hill under his own steam.
