River Dane, Danebridge

Buxton Team were called to search the River Dane from Danebridge to Gradbach for a canoeist who had been swept away in the spate. Because of the length and nature of the area Search & Rescue Dogs were requested as well as Water Search sections from Edale and Kinder MRT’s.

Sadly, the canoeist was located approx ¼ mile below where she was last seen and, despite the efforts of the emergency service, was pronounced dead.

Buxton MRT expresses their deepest sympathy to all friends and relatives of the deceased.

River Dane

Dog Handler, Nick Smith, with Search Dog, Zak, called to support Buxton MRT to search after a canoeist was reported missing on the River Dane, near Gradbach, on Sunday afternoon.

The canoeist was found in the water about a quarter of a mile down river. All attempts to save her failed, and she was confirmed dead at the scene.

Grindsbrook Clough, Kinder Scout

Several Team members attending the incident at Jacob’s Ladder were diverted to a male walker who had fallen in the upper forks of Grindsbrook and sustained head and leg injuries. The casualty was treated at the scene and then transported by RAF Seaking directly to hospital in Stockport.

Jacob’s Ladder, Kinder Scout

Joint Buxton and Edale Teams’ snatch squad called to Jacob’s Ladder near Upper Booth. A female walker had fallen whilst descending the path and was in the river with head and back injuries as well as hypothermia.
Treated on-site the casualty was carried on a  mountain rescue stretcher to a waiting road ambulance.
An RAF Seaking helicopter, initially tasked to this job, was diverted when the Team was made aware of a second, unrelated incident at the top of Grindsbrook Clough.

Chapel Gate Track, Rushup Edge

Joint Buxton and Edale Teams’ snatch squad called to an incident involving an off-road motorcyclist.  The motorcyclist parted company with his machine whilst descending the Chapel Gate Track from Rushup Edge to the Mam Nick road.  

Early information about the exact location of the incident was poor so Edale MRT climbed up the track whilst Buxton MRT went from the top down.  Edale members were first to locate the biker and rendered first aid.  An air-ambulance attended the scene but the injuries were not considered serious enough for an aerial evacuation.  The casualty was carried on a  mountain rescue stretcher to a waiting road …
