Incident report

A joint snatch squad of Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams called to assist an injured walker near the gritstone escarpment of Stanage Edge, above Hathersage.

The casualty, a 44 year old man from Brighton, slipped on wet rock on a route beneath the escarpment and fractured his lower left leg. He was treated on scene by MR and air ambulance crew before being evacuated by stretcher to the waiting helicopter. The carry-off was through high, dense bracken, and scattered boulders made slippery by the wet weather.

The gentleman was flown by air ambulance to a hospital in Chesterfield for further treatment.
