Incident report

A call-out for the joint Buxton Edale snatch squad when a simple slip on an innocuous looking grassy slope led to a suspected fracture ankle just yards from the roadside.

The 60 year old male from Chesterfield was walking with a party of friends when the slip on frozen water-logged grass caused the accident.   The weather was bright and fine but a strong northerly wind reduced the temperature to well below freezing.  Fortunately another walker was able to supply a shelter tent for the casualty whilst he waited for assistance.

Paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance were soon on scene but called for rescue team assistance to carry the man the short distance over ground made treacherously slippy by ice.

Myself, my mum and my dad would like to thank all the people who helped in his rescue yesterday. He is hoping that he will get his ankle fixed today or tomorrow and is eager to be up and about again as soon as possible. Once again thankyou to the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team for your hard work and dedication.
