Incident report

Team members on exercise with an RAF Search and Rescue Sea King helicopter at their Doveholes base were called to assist a 32 year old male from Tamworth who had slipped on sheet ice sustaining a lower leg injury in an area near Kinder Downfall. A section of six personnel together with equipment were flown in the Sea King aircraft to the reported incident site. Further members backed up the section by road. The air section located the casualty, treated him and he was then flown to the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield for further treatment .
The aircraft then returned to Kinder Downfall and collected the team personnel, before returning to our base at Doveholes to continue the pre-arranged training. This is not an area that Buxton would normally be called as first team , but the availability of the Sea king made this an obvious request from the Kinder Team leader who was co-incidentally at Buxton base when he received the call from the controller. Kinder team had also been called to assist.
