Incident report

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called at 10.30 on Monday morning by East Midlands Ambulance Service to assist with an injured walker in Grinlow Country Park, Buxton.   An elderly gentleman was reported to have been walking his dog when he slipped on a wet tree root and sustained a head injury.  Nineteen team members responded as it was a wet and cold day and not the conditions for anyone to be lying on the open ground for too long.
The initial rendezvous at Grinlow car-park was quickly changed to Pooles Cavern when the exact location of the incident became apparent. The team was grateful to the cavern staff for assistance with directions and for permission to use the Land Rover tracks through the woodland.
Initial assessment and treatment was carried out by the ambulance paramedics who then handed over to the rescue team for the evacuation.  The casualty was placed on a stretcher for the carry to Grinlow car-park where an ambulance was waiting to convey him to hospital.
