Incident report

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called out late on Saturday night following a request from Derbyshire Police to assist a 23 year old male from Peterborough who had become disorientated after setting off from Edale on a circular route of Kinder Scout.

The controller was able to speak to the missing man and identify his approximate location. A party of mountain rescue volunteers were able to quickly locate the missing man safe and well in the Crowden Tower area. After some food and a hot drink, he was escorted off the hill back to Edale.

Neil Carruthers, Buxton Team Leader said “Whilst it was not raining when the team was called, previous rain had raised the water levels in the streams which had made the planned route more challenging than the casualty had expected. He was quite well equipped but the recent wet weather made this route far more interesting than the route he had seen described on the internet. It is important to consider the weather and if necessary, adjust your route to suit your skills on the day.”
