Incident report

Buxton Edale snatch squad called to evacuate a 59 year old walker who had fallen approximately 6m/20ft whilst scrambling in the waterfalls in the gorge at the head of Crowden Brook. The first team members and kit were flown up the hill by the Derbyshire Police helicopter with other parties making their way on foot. After examination by MR doctors revealed that the casualty was suffering from a significant injury, a possible dislocated knee or upper leg fracture, a head injury and hypothermia. In light of these injuries, an RAF Sea King was requested to evacuate the casualty. After treatment on site the casualty along with two team medics were winched c. 100m from site and flown to Sheffield.

The assistance of passing walkers and one of the part time park rangers, not least 2 gentlemen from Sheffield was a great assistance to the team and indeed the casualty.
