Youngsters pedal for the rescue team.

The Great Manchester Cycle returns on Sunday 29th June with 8,000 riders expected to take to the closed roads of Manchester city centre.  Two of those riders will be on a special mission; to raise money for Buxton Mountain Rescue Team!

Nine year old Annabel Parker and her brother eight year old George are pupils of St Anne’s School in Buxton and have been keen cyclists since they very young.  They are keen members of Matlock Cycle Club which has provided excellent training and encouragement for the 20 kilometre (13 mile) event.

On Sunday, the whole family will be taking part in the event and have launched a Just Giving web-site to manage sponsorship.

When mum, Julie, was asked why the family had decided to raise money for the rescue team she replied, “The children thought it would be good to raise some money for a charity and Annabel wanted to choose one close to home.  They decided on Buxton Mountain Rescue because one day we just might need them.  George is planning to use them more than once!”

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team sends a great big “Thank you” to the whole Parker family and wishes them a safe and successful event.

The rescue team will welcome any sponsorship raised which will go into the team’s £50,000 for Fifty Years Service Appeal to replace an ageing response vehicle.   If you would like to send some encouragement to the children please go to;  https://www.justgiving.com/parkers-on-bikes/
