Waitrose Community Matters

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team members, Roger Bennett and Rob Wymer, wereWaitrose SMALL Feb 2016_edited-1 pleased to visit Waitrose supermarket in Buxton this week to receive a cheque for £563 from Community Matters organiser, Julie Atkinson.

Buxton MRT was one of three charities to share £1,000 of the Waitrose monthly donation to local good causes.  The proportion of the share is decided by customers indicating their preference with tokens at the checkout.  To receive such a large donation was a real surprise and a indication of how much the local community appreciates the work done by mountain rescue teams.

It costs around £30,000 each year to keep the voluntary team operational so £563 is a very welcome contribution.  The money will go partly on replacing worn out equipment and partly on providing training courses.

The team sends a huge “Thank You” to Waitrose for organising the generous “Community Matters” scheme and a great big “Thank You” to the people of Buxton for making Buxton MRT their chosen charity.
