Teams in Joint Goyt Valley exercise

The Goyt Valley near Buxton is a very popular rambling and dog-walking area20160522_131114_small and is busy on most days of the week all year round.

The valley includes two reservoirs, numerous paths and tracks to the tops of the hills and hundreds of acres of forest and dense vegetation.  Dealing with a known location accident in the area would be bad enough but the report of someone missing would cause a significant problem and too big to handle for any one team.

Consequently, at the weekend, Kinder M.R.T. joined forces with Buxton for a joint exercise in dealing with a missing person scenario.  Controlled from the Erwood Hall (ruins) car-park members of both teams mixed together and set off in various directions as commanded.  Two Search & Rescue Dogs also joined in and it was one of these which found the casualty at the top of Shooter’s Clough.

A stretcher and medical equipment was soon on scene and the mock injured walker was carried back to Erwood.

It was a very worthwhile exercise with a realistic theme giving ample opportunities for the members of each team to learn from each others skills.
