BMRT helps the National Citizen Service

National Citizen Service (NCS) is a scheme open to all 16 and 17-year-olds in England and is aimed at building skills for work and life. Darren NCS 2 Candidates take on new challenges and meet new friends.  It runs in the spring, summer and autumn each year and usually involves taking part in a team project that will help the local community.  NCS brings together young people from different backgrounds and helps them develop greater confidence, self-awareness and responsibility. It encourages personal and social development by working on skills like leadership, teamwork and communication.

On Tuesday the team was privileged to be invited to give two presentations to a 34 young people participating in the scheme at The Hollwoford Centre at Castleton.  Team members talked about the working practices of the team and provided an oversight of what mountain rescue volunteers do.   They demonstrated the team’s equipment, and explained how known location incidents are dealt with and how searches for missing people are managed.  There was then a practical session on casualty and stretcher handling techniques before the group then carried out their own search exercise in the afternoon.
It was a great day for all the participants and the team would like to thank the Hollowford Centre at Castleton, The Lindley Trust & The N.C.S. for the opportunity to be involved.
