Lifetime Achievement Award

Congratulations to Roger Bennett, recently retired team member, who was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Pride of Buxton Awards held at the University of Derby’s Devonshire Dome in Buxton on Saturday 2nd December 2017. The award was given in recognition of Roger’s 40 years service to Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and was presented by Mr Bill Weston MBE and the Mayor of the High Peak, Cllr Matthew Stone. The Pride of Buxton Awards were organised by the Voluntary and Community Services, Peak and Dales.
Over his forty year tenure Roger held most positions on the Team Management Committee including Team Leader, Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. Roger was a driving force for many improvements such as the use of radio pagers, the team’s first 4×4, and the (then) new team buildings at Dove Holes to mention just a few.
During his time with the team, Roger was a blue light driver for over 20 years and it is estimated that Roger had attended well in excess of 1000 callouts, however detailed records of team member attendances in the early years of the team are difficult to find.
Roger’s dedication and enthusiasm for mountain rescue was second to none.
A wonderful accolade on his retirement from the team. The Team wishes Roger good health and happiness for the future.

Well done Roger! A thoroughly deserved award. Your commitment and dedication has been outstanding and you have been a driving force in making the team as successful and professional as it is today. You and the team should be justifiably proud of your all of your achievements. It has been a great pleasure for me personally to have worked with you in the team over many years.
You have left very big boots to fill!
