In Memory of Ted Martin

Donations totalling nearly £400 have been made to The Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation in memory of the late Ted Martin from Pres March 2015 Jo croppedCodnor, Derbyshire who died in January this year.

Ted and his beloved wife, Barbara, spent many years cycling and rambling in the Peak District and his family decided to nominate The P.D.M.R.O. as a beneficiary from collections made at is funeral.

The gifts were handed to members of Buxton MRT at its Dove Holes base on Wednesday night and will be passed on to the P.D.M.R.O. for the benefit of all the teams in the region.  Funds raised by the PDMRO are predominantly used to finance training opportunities both locally and nationally for members of all the seven teams in the region.

Whilst at the team’s base Ted’s family had the opportunity to see the equipment and vehicles typically used by all teams and which are all purchased with voluntary contributions.

Deputy Team Leader, Keith Birkit, receiving the donation on behalf of the region said, “Donations of this sort are always  tinged with sadness but we hope the knowledge that the gifts will be used for the benefit of others will be of some comfort to Ted’s family.  This is a very valuable contribution to our regional resources and we are very grateful for his family thinking of mountain rescue at such a difficult time.”
