Results in for Young Buxton Cyclists

You just can’t escape folk on bikes this month…The Greater Manchester Cycle event took place on Sunday (29/6) on closed roads in Manchester City Centre.  Amongst the thousands of riders were the Parker family from Buxton, including their 2 children, Annabel 9 years, and George 8 years. Both children are pupils of St Anne’s School, Buxton, who have been keen cyclists since they were very young.

Lucky for us, Annabel and George decided to raise money for Buxton Mountain Rescue Team to support our golden anniversary appeal.  To date the children have raised more the £200, which is a terrific feat in itself.

The results are now out and here are the overall placings:

251st       Julie Parker

252nd       Annabel Parker

270th       Dave Parker

275th       George Parker

Buxton youngsters at GMC National Cycle Centre

In the 0-34 years category Annabel was 111th and George was 121st. In the female category Annabel was 42nd (Mum being 40th).  In the male category George was 225th (Dad 224th).  In the 0-34 years age group Annabel was 111th and George 121st.  The whole family completed the ride in about 58 minutes with an average speed of around 13.5 mph.  Annabel said “It was really slow for the first couple of miles and they were flying by the end.  Annabel went for full sprint finish for the last mile!! We are all looking forward to doing it again next year – and already talking tactics!”
Congratulations to the whole family.
If anyone would like to make a contribution in support of the Parker family, their Just Giving page is still open for donations.
