A story to make you shiver
Buxton Mountain Rescue Team doctors, Vicki Taylor and Matt Stagg, were on home turf in a Macclesfield hostelry last Wednesday night when they were invited to talk to the East Cheshire Outdoor Group (http://www.ecog.org.uk) about Mountain Rescue and hypothermia.
Prompted by the group’s recent experience in The Lake District they thought it would be opportune to find out more about their local team. The meeting was hosted at The Park Tavern in their upstairs cinema room; sadly neither speaker had managed to get their hands on the Pearl and Dean theme tune to kick off their talks.
Dr Vicki warmed up the crowd with a chilling presentation on the perils of hypothermia; pertinent as temperatures fell below zero and Macclesfield was coated in snow.
Dr Matt headlined with a whistle-stop tour through the history of Mountain Rescue in the UK from the turn of the last century to present day changes. Sadly due to both speakers “rambling on” there was no time to cover the final talk on limb injuries but plans were made to meet again for some first aid training later this year.

Many thanks to Vicki and Matt for coming to talk to us – it was great to find out more about the team as well as learning about the perils of hypothermia. We hope to organise another event in conjunction with BMRT later in the year.
Kind Regards
