£50,000 For 50 Years of Service Campaign gets its first contribution.

2014 is Buxton Mountain Rescue Team’s Golden Anniversary and marks the start of a major fund raising campaign to replace the team’s Incident Control Vehicle which, after eleven years of loyal service, is now due for retirement.

And only a few days into the New Year the,”£50,000 for Fifty Years  Service Fund”  has already received its first contribution.  The donation of £65 was raised by the parishioners of St James’ Taxal at a concert in the church when parishioners were entertained by a Barbershop Harmony Chorus.

Last year Buxton Mountain Rescue Team attended 84 incidents at the request of police and ambulance services, assisted 121 people, and spent 2,800 hours on call-outs alone. Mountain Rescue is a truly voluntary service without any paid staff whatsoever and never charges for the service it provides.  Without the support of so many people and organisations, who give so generously throughout the year, the work of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team simply could not continue.

Team member Jane Walker Cull, who received the cheque on behalf of the team said, “£50,000 for  Fifty Years Service” is a huge challenge and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team extend its grateful thanks to the parishioners at St James’ Taxal for getting the appeal off to a flying start”.

So, only another £49,935 to go!   Can YOU HELP?
