142 Kilometre Challenge to All Teams

In celebration of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation’s 50th Anniversary  Keith Wakely, the Team leader of Woodhead MRT,  made a challenge to all the other teams.

PDMRO 50th emblemTo pay homage to the Tour De France, which will pass through the area just one week later, that a bike ride would be a good idea.  (Good idea!?  I don’t know how many pints they had had when this decision was taken!)  The PDMRO Tour de Peak was born and it’s this Saturday 28th June.

Starting at Oldham MRT’s base the ride will climb out of Greenfield through Holmefirth to Woodhead MRT’s base.  It will then take on the Tour de France “King of the Mountain” climb at Holme Moss before descending to Glossop base.  The challenge will then link up throughout the Peak District to Kinder MRT’s base, Buxton MRT’s base and Edale MRT’s base before finally ending the day at Derby MRT’s checkpoint.

That’s a total of 142 kilometers and an awful lot of climbing.  This is going to be a real challenge for members of every team.  Will it be a race or will the PDMRO do what it does best and pull together to rise to the challenge ?

Buxton Team members, Dave Mason and Joe Rees have accepted the challenge with some understandable trepidation!

The riders should be calling at Buxton’ Dove Holes base anytime after 12.00 on Saturday (a long time after for some!) and you are welcome to come along and offer support.

You can encourage the riders by making a donation which will help the regional organisation provide training courses and support to its seven member teams.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity.
