Incident report

On Monday afternoon the team was called by Derbyshire Police to an injured walker believed to be on the Monsal Trail, near Millers Dale.

Further information indicated the casualty was above the Monsal Trail on an area known as the plate layers track, which is a high level path linking Litton Mill and Cressbook. We located the casualty, a lady aged 45 years from Rotherham, above the cliffs overlooking Water Cum Jolly Dale. She was walking with a friend when she slipped on the steep ground. In an attempt to arrest her fall, she sustained a suspected fractured wrist.

The lady was in severe pain and was treated on site by rescue team personnel with pain relief and splinting. She was then evacuated by stretcher to a waiting ambulance on the Monsal Trail and transferred to Chesterfield Royal Hospital for further treatment.

Neil Carruthers, Buxton Team Leader said “ We carried out a short, but difficult evacuation, using ropes across very steep ground”.
