Incident report

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team experienced that “groundhog” feeling when it was tasked to The Roaches for the second time in twelve hours.

West Midlands Ambulance Service requested assistance following a call from three young men who had been “bouldering” on The Roaches earlier in the evening.  As the sun set the three men from Leek found themselves on the crag in total darkness and with no torches.  Whilst making their way back off towards the road one of the men fell sustaining a suspected fracture ankle.

At the time of first reporting the men were unable to give the precise location of where they were on the crag so a “Full Team Call-out” was initiated in readiness for a search.  However, the ambulance crew, which was first to arrive, quickly located the group and start treatment.  As team members and equipment arrived the casualty was soon placed on a stretcher for the short trip down to the road where the ambulance was waiting.
