Incident report

A late afternoon call-out for Buxton Mountain Rescue Team following a report to Derbyshire police from an adult couple on a circular walk from Monsal Head.

The couple, from Prestwich, Manchester, had walked along the Monsal Trail towards Miller’s Dale before turning southwest and up hill towards Priestcliffe.  Using only a guided walk downloaded from the internet and with no map or other navigational aids, it wasn’t long before they were hopelessly lost in the wooded area.

The team rendezvoused at Miller’s Dale station car-park and began a search of all the paths south of the river Wye.  Within thirty minutes of the search commencing, team members had located the couple and started to guide them back to the car-park.  Neither couple had any injuries but were wet and cold.

There are some obvious lessons about preparation and basic equipment to be learnt from this experience.
